Black eyed peas with onions recipe

Recipe ingredients

  • 1 cup black eyed peas, washed
  • 5 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 inch root ginger, grated
  • 1 to 2 green chillis, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon molasses

How to make black eyed peas with onions

  • Soak the beans in the water overnight.
  • Boil the beans in the water. Cover and simmer for 1 hour until tender. Drain.
  • Heat the oil in a large saucepan and fry the onion, garlic, ginger and chilli until the onions are soft.
  • Add the beans, salt and molasses and cook until all the moisture is absorbed, about 15 minutes.
  • Serve with baktoras.
