French apple tart recipe

Recipe ingredients

  • 3/4 cup plain untreated flour
  • 3/4 cup whole-wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup ground almonds
  • 8 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup fruit sugar
  • Pinch salt
  • Filling:
    • 6 cooking apples
    • 10 tablespoons butter
    • 2 to 3 tablespoons fruit sugar
    • 2 teaspoons mixed spice

How to make french apple tart

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  • To make the pastry, sift the flours and almonds together onto a board and make a well in the middle.
  • Put the remaining ingredients into the well and work in with your fingertips until you have a smooth dough.
  • Knead for a few minutes, then leave for half an hour in the fridge.
  • Meanwhile, peel, core and slice the apples.
  • Heat the butter in a pan and fry the apples gently until soft and golden.
  • Add the sugar and spice and cook, stirring, until the apple is coated with syrup.
  • Line a greased 8 inches loose-bottomed quiche pan with the pastry and fill with the apple.
  • Bake for 25 to 30 minutes and serve with whipped cream.
